Biography
One of the most compelling pianists of his generation, MichaelDavidman is the winner of the 2025 American Piano Awards andrecipient of the Christel DeHaan Classical Fellowship. He currentlyserves as Artist-in-Residence at the University of Indianapolis.
Hailed by The Classical Music Journal for his “sweeping yetrefined sentimentality and pyrotechnical prowess,” Davidman hasappeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, OrchestreSymphonique de la Garde Républicaine, Indianapolis SymphonyOrchestra, Freixenet Encuentro Symphony Orchestra, Reina SofíaOrchestra, Monterey Symphony, Symphonicity, and numerous otherensembles across the United States and abroad.
His performances have taken him to such venues as Salle Cortot,Théâtre du Châtelet, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, CarnegieRecital Hall, Kimmel Center, Sandler Center, Symphony Space, MerkinConcert Hall, and Hilbert Circle Theatre. An active recitalist andchamber musician, Davidman has appeared at festivals including theNorfolk Chamber Music Festival at Yale, Music Academy of the West,Kneisel Hall, Music@Menlo, PianoFest, and Summit Music Festival, aswell as the Burgos International Music Festival in Spain and TeatroAlfieri in Italy. His performances have been heard on WHYY’s CurtisOn Stage, WQXR’s McGraw Hill Young Artists Showcase withRobert Sherman, WSKG-FM’s Expressions, NPR’s From theTop, and Piano Evenings with David Dubal.

Davidman’s other honors include third prize and the Orchestra Prizeat the 2022 Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition; first placein the 2019 Juilliard Gina Bachauer Piano Competition; first prize inthe chamber ensemble category of the 2018 New York InternationalPiano Competition; first prizes in both solo and concerto categoriesat the 33rd Ithaca College of Music Piano Competition; the GrandPrize at the ninth LISMA Foundation International Music Competition;and first place in the 2011 Mary Smart International ConcertoCompetition. He was also the recipient of a four-year scholarshipfrom the Chopin Foundation of the United States.
Davidman earned his Bachelor of Music degree at the Curtis Instituteof Music, where he studied with Robert McDonald and Ford MyliusLallerstedt, and his Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School,studying with Jerome Lowenthal and Stephen Hough. He completed hisArtist Diploma at the International Center for Music in Kansas City,Missouri, where he studied with Stanislav Ioudenitch.
His musical training began at age five at Greenwich House MusicSchool and continued with Efrem Briskin at the Manhattan School ofMusic. As a precollege student, Davidman won first place in all threeage categories of the Manhattan School of Music Precollege ConcertoCompetition—at ages ten, twelve, and sixteen. At thirteen, he wasselected to perform in a Lang Lang masterclass at the ManhattanSchool of Music, performing Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 10.
Beyond the concert stage, Davidman is a lifelong opera enthusiast andenjoys sharing historical and rare recordings through his YouTubechannel, PucciniMD. He also occasionally trades the solo spotlightfor the role of accompanist during “opera night” at a New YorkCity restaurant.
